i have always hated May since i was a little kid for two reasons: 1) School let out for the summer and i hated being home for the summer. 2) All the series would come to an end for the season or forever.
Tonight The Office comes to an end after 9 years on NBC. Nine years of my life was spent getting to know this cast of bizarre characters and now they are gone.
Nice years of hearing things like “That’s what she said.”
Nine years of Jim cleverly creating pranks to pull on Dwight.
Nine years of watching Jim and Pam fall in love, get married and have children. Jim and Pam, the heart of the series, at least for me. A lot of fans fell away after Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) left to be with the woman he loved, but i stayed with it because the heart had not left.
The series did change the past two seasons, but not for the worse and not for the best; it was just different. i still loved it. It felt more like an ensemble comedy, with a complete ensemble cast. We finally were able to learn more about the other characters that patiently sat in the back of the office of Dunder Mifflin. i enjoyed watching them step up to the plate and hitting some out of the park humour.
The only bad part of the final season was, “will they break-up or will they stay together” between Jim and Pam. It was really agonising for me to watch. i must admit that i cried sometimes because it felt like a couple of friends of mine were having a hard time together.
But as we saw last week, Jim came through, and he realised what was important, most important to him, his love for Pam.
“All I know is that every time I’ve been faced with a tough decision, there’s only one thing that outweighs every other concern.
One thing that will make you give up on everything you thought you knew.
Every instinct, every rational calculation;
Love.” – Jim Halpert
“When you’re a kid, you assume your parents are soul-mates. My kids are gonna be right about that.” – Pam Beesley Halpert
Who was your favourite character? What was your favourite Office moment?
Good bye The Office. i will miss you the most.
more to come…
Update after the finale.
It might have been a bit saccharine filled, but when a friend moves away to another country or a relative is dying life becomes a bit sentimental. Michael Scott appearance had me in tears, but so did Pam’s gesture of love to Jim. i will miss The Office as one might miss a loved one that passed away from a tragic death.
ocean score
A perfect 5/5, even though the first season was not very good, the following seasons more than made up for it.

Sorry Ocean but you haven’t watched “the office” you have watched the US vesion Ricky Gervais created a brilliant show that maybe needed a UK sense of the ridiculous and experience of the satire of a british office that he was reflecting to fully appreciate it. One of the most iconic programmes ever. David Brent was and always will be a slightly out of touch, out of date middle manager from Slough.
Yes, i saw that one too, but i did not like it. i actually did not watch the U.S. version because i hate the U.K. one, but the U.S. version changed after the first season and become great.
