1001 Albums #6

Jazz music is not something I would normally buy, but if you are looking for something to listen to while you clean the house and you want it to sound like chaos, then Duke Ellington’s Ellington At Newport 1956 is the album for you. It is only music and some interludes of Ellington speaking to the audience.

Honestly, this was the most difficult album to listen to so far. It gets a bit busy on some of the songs. If you have ever seen Punch-Drunk Love, then you will understand what I mean by busy. This type of jazz is what I often feel inside my head and at times my body. It became very overwhelming and I cannot breathe. I will not say this music is terrible because as I listened to it a second time it grew on me, but I can only take the chaos for short period of time.

In general, I do not like live albums because I hate hearing people clap, especially since it is dangerous to clap and drive. At times, jazz sounds like the guy who is playing the piano is hitting the keys out of tune and that does not sound good to me. I would recommend skip the album and go to a jazz concert. The live atmosphere makes it more enjoyable.
