Ray Price’s Night Life is a honky tonk country album. Is the fact that he talks about what the album is in the introduction song what makes it honky tonk? Or is it because he is white that it is honky (tonk)? I hate the intro song because I find it weird that he is talking to the audience on an album.
I wonder if the part where he talks about the Cherokee Cowboys is considered racist today. I am sure some white person who is neither Cherokee nor Cowboy will be offended somewhere. I decided to research the term and it turns out to be the name of his band.
Speaking of Ray Price’s band. He surrounded himself with some of the future stars of country music. The other artist on this album are Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck, Floyd Cramer and Buddy Emmons. Emmons was the “Best Steel Guitarist” winner nine times and an inventor. Nelson is the only one still alive.
I realized what I hate about country music. The instruments sound like cats screaming sometimes. I hate cats. I hate screaming. Therefore, I hate country music. The lyrics are depressing, which is very 80s before the 80s. Country music is depressing lyrics and depressing music. So basically it is adding depression upon depression. It is not my type of music. I like my depressing lyrics surrounded by upbeat music.
I would never listen to it again. I think they are talented at what they do. It does nothing for me, but I would buy it for someone I hate. 5/10
