1001 Albums #54

When I saw the title of the next album Live at the Regal from B.B. King I became depressed. Another live album and another artist I am not familiar with in the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die list.

Surprisingly it is an okay album even with all my hatred of live albums. It is the blues. I live in the blues. It is where I am most comfortable. I have been blue my whole life. My blues have the blues. I do not actively seek out to listen to the blues, but if I went to a club where the blues is playing I would enjoy it. King has some interesting banter with the audience. He talks to men about not going upside their wife or woman’s head. It does one thing. It makes her a little smarter. She will not get caught next time. I am paraphrasing a bit. He even gives the women advice about their men.

My other problem with this album is the same as with all the other albums which has songs on it that are not new. The list of 1001 Albums has some crappy criteria. I think this will be the cause of some great albums being left off the list in the 80s. I have not look that far ahead so I cannot be sure.

I would recommend this album if you like the blues and you like live music. King is the king of the blues. I think it has one of the worst album covers. He died in 2015 so this is as close as you will get to hearing him live. 7/10.
