The Kinks made a change in their type of music with 1966’s album Face To Face. They moved away from beat music to rock music and baroque pop. Was it a good change? It got this album on the list of 1001 Albums… and it is considered one of the first concept rock albums.
I listened to a little of the previous albums by the Kinks before listening to Face To Face. I think I like their beat sound a lot better. This album kind of bored me. It is not that it is horrible. It is unfortunate that nothing sounds as great as “You Really Got Me“. I will go back later when time permits and listen to more of their older albums.
The most exciting thing about Face To Face is the album cover. It is so pretty and colourful. It does pick up a bit toward the end of the Side B with “You’re Lookin’ Fine“, “Sunny Afternoon“, and “I’ll Remember“
I think it was a mistake to include this album on the list of 1001 Albums… I had a friend when I was about 16 years old who would be angry to hear that I will call this album mediocre, but she died so I am okay with it. I will tell more about her later. Maybe. 5.5/10.
