1001 Albums #69

Freak Out! was the first album of The Mothers of Invention, formally known as the Soul Giants. The band just added new member Frank Zappa who insisted on writing all the songs if he joined the band. This is what they created.

“What is it this?” That is what most people will say when they hear this “music”. This is the weirdest crap I have ever heard. It all seems so random and without purpose. It is supposed to be satirical. They are talented, but strange.

I find it funny that Frank Zappa called The Beatles out because he thought they only made music for the money. I think you make music back in those day because it lived in your bones. Today there are many artist doing it for popularity. I am sure some did then, but it was different it was all new. I do not think The Beatles thought they were going to change the world. Zappa was jealous because he could not sell this weird crap.

“Any Way the Wind Blows” was the one song I could connect to on the album. I think it shows that they have potential to be serious songwriters. It is quite catchy.

Help, I’m a Rock” must have influenced Primus. I was a big fan of Primus in 1990 and beyond. I saw them in concert at least once, maybe twice. They were awesome in the beginning.

The album is so bizarre. Personally, I do not listen to music for satire. I would rather read satire in a book and feel the music. I am not feeling Freak Out! I do feel mentally tired. It was good. 6/10.
