Axis: Bold as Love was the band’s second album in 1967. Time were different and band produced an album or two a year. Today, the artist usually wait about three years between albums. Some artists like Prince did not like to wait that long and he was extremely prolific.
I have never heard this album at all, but I knew one song “Little Wing“. Sting recorded it for his 1987 solo album …Nothing Like the Sun. I remember that song with great fondness. It holds many memories for me, but that will come later if any albums from that year are listed in the book.
If I listen to one Police song, then it turns into an infestation of Police songs. Yes, I know, but I could not think of a better word. I guess I should go back to listening to Jimi Hendrix.
This album does not seem as creative as their debut album. But…”Little Wing” is one of the best songs ever. Did I mention that yet?
One song from the album is extremely hard to find. It is not on Spotify and when I googled it a bunch of cover versions appeared. I had to dig for “Wait Until Tomorrow“. I am not sure why it is so hard to find. It is considered one of the strongest tracks on the album. It is a good song.
I like Side two of this album overall better than Side one. As I have stated previously, Hendrix is not a great singer, but he knows his instruments and he plays the hell out of them. This album is a grower. 7.5/10.
