Traffic is not a band I have heard, but its original members all had successful careers in music. After listening to the album I can see why they were not that successful as a band.
I was erroneously listening to their first album, when I realised it I switched over to the self-titled album. I was enjoying their first album, but Traffic sounds like a train-wreck. The music was great, but the vocals were terrible. Granted, it was not Joan Baez horrendous. I was surprised since I know songs from three of the members.
Dave Mason had a hit with “We Just Disagree“. I remember this song because my mother listened to it a lot. She probably thought there was a bad guy in her relationships.
So let’s leave it alone ’cause we can’t see eye to eye
There ain’t no good guy, there ain’t no bad guy
There’s only you and me and we just disagree
Jim Capaldi had a hit in the 80s with “That’s Love“. I remember liking this song a lot, but it did not have a love association to it for me. I just disagreed that I would change the world, at least for myself.
And the most successful of its members was Steve Winwood. Everyone knows Higher Love (feat. Chaka Khan). I liked the song because of Khan. I liked her voice.
The coolest thing about this band is that they all played on each other’s solo works. That is a rare thing to see in the music business.
As for the album Traffic, I would skip it. It was pretty bad. 4/10.
