#135 The Mothers of Invention – We’re Only In It For The Money

I am not surprise to find another album from The Mothers of Invention on the list of 1001 Albums… The people who put together this book do like some crappy music. We’re Only In It For The Money is a satirical album of the left and the right side of American politics and The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was obvious to me that this was a satirical album from the title and from listening to this band once before. You make this type of music when you are not trying to make money.

This album is completely ridiculous. I can see where “Weird Al” Yankovic got his inspiration with songs like “What’s the Ugliest Part of Your Body?” and “Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance“.

The Chrome Plated Megaphone of Destiny” is the last song on the album and maybe I was tired or not, but it was a bit scary sounding.

The best part of the album is that it is less than 40 minutes long. I love a good satire, but in films and books only. I wish I could say this album was so bad that it was good, but I cannot lie. It is just bad and weird. 3/10.
