#137 Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band – Trout Mask Replica

Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band reminds me of The Mothers of Invention, Frank Zappa who produced their album Trout Mask Replica and Primus’s lovechild if all those guys could have a baby, but real mean cannot carry a baby. I knew from the album’s title that it was going to be weird. I was right.

Experimental music and avant-garde music is what you create when you cannot actually sing. I am just putting that out there. As I have stated before, I liked Primus in the beginning, but eventually I got tired of it. This album is very similar to The Mothers of Invention, which I just reviewed two post ago, but I might like it a little better.

None of the songs really stick out for me, but the weirdness is bountiful. I think the musicians are talented, but this is not the type of music I can listen to for long. Because of PTSD my head is filled with chaos and this album is filled with bluesy chaos with poetic ranting. When I hear outside chaos it makes me anxious.

If you like any of the previously mentioned bands, then I recommend that you try this album out. I had to use the album’s title to search for it on Spotify. Warning: The album has 28 songs and is over 78 minutes long. 4/10.
