The Stooges exploded on the scene in 1969 with their landmark proto-punk album The Stooges. Lead singer Iggy Stooge aka Iggy Pop would become known for his unpredictable stage antics. He is the “Godfather of Punk“.
I do think I even need to review this album. If you like punk, then you should have listened to it or should listen to it now. This is so different than any other album on this list. At first I thought it was an early 80s album.
The first three songs “1969“, “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and “We Will Fall” on the remastered edition on Spotify are awesome. I love “I Wanna Be Your Dog” from Joan Jett. I was a huge fan and I saw her in concert twice. Both versions of the song are awesome.
This is where I am not sure which version I like better. There are some of the mixes of the album done by producer John Cale, but rejected by the record company, so Iggy Pop and the president of the record company remixed them. “No Fun” is one of those songs that I think I prefer the Cale mix.
I actually met Iggy Pop once. He was staying in a hotel where I was a room service waiter. I knocked on his door and he answered shirtless as if he was on stage. He was very kind. I did not expect that from him.
I was not expecting to like this album as much as I do. It sounds way ahead of its time. The Stooges were time travellers. The music is incredible. This is an album that I can listen to without skipping around, although I want to hear the first three songs over and over. 10/10.
