Galette des Rois (or King Cake in New Orleans where i grew up) is part of the French tradition for Epiphany. Epiphany is a Christian holiday on January 6 marking the epiphany of the infant Jesus to the Magi, but to many people in New Orleans it is the start of Mardi Gras.
It was one of my favourite holidays as a kid. i used to get a big brown shopping bag and i would grab as many trinkets as i could get, either from the krewe or from other revelers’ hands.
In France, they eat this cake during the month of January. Inside the cake is a trinket (fève) and the lucky one to find it is the king for the day. Today was my lucky day. Now you may call me King ocean. i found a ceramic bull in my piece of cake. i would bet that the dentist sees a lot of chipped or broken teeth at this time of the year.

It is filled with transplants from all over. It is a city rich in culture and heritage, unlike most of the U.S.
